Psalm 66:10–12 (KJV 1900)
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: Thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water: But thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
“ Getting to a wealthy Place “
Psalm 66
This is another psalm of thanksgiving to the Lord.
(vv. 1–12)
the psalmist wrote in the first person plural (“us,” “our”),
and in the second section
(vv. 13–20)
he wrote in the first person singular (“I,” “me,” “my”).
From Public to Personal
In the psalm the nation acknowledged God’s deliverance
and called on the nations to join her in praising the Lord.
My brothers and my sisters
I discovered as I read the word of God
There are some scriptures that you get to
You can’t help but get excited about it
When you read them
In my study of the word of God
There’s been times that I have been reading the word of God
Not for preparation for a sermon
Or Bible study
But there’s been times in my meditation
That I have run across certain scriptures
And those scriptures bless me to the point
And I had to stop what I was doing
And praise God for that particular word
TO ME
Scriptures excite me like
Romans 8:28 (NASB95)
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Philippians 4:19 (NASB95)
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Jehovah Jireh
2 Chronicles 20:15 (NASB95)
15 and he said, “Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the Lord to you, ‘Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.
Note: The word of God tells you that you don’t have to fight your foes you stand still and foes you face will fall without you fighting because God will give you favor
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
There’s a plethora of verses in the Bible
That will excite you when you’re going through
Some unexciting times
In Psalm 66 verse 12
Is one of those verses
That we are to add to those excitable verses
Because it’s hard to read our text today
And discover that God has planned
To take us to a wealthy place
And not get excited about it
God’s desire today for you and I
Is to enjoy a wealthy place
And I know that’s hard to believe
When you look at your life right now
And you ask yourself the question
REALLY ????????
But you say really
Because you’re looking at your current situation
And your current situation will push you to say
No way
God is going to take me to a wealthy place
On this side of heaven
As much trauma as I’m experiencing in my life
You can’t see things getting better
You can’t see things being turned around
But Regardless of how things are
Things are getting ready to be turned around
God says I’m going to lead you to
A wealthy place
This place of abundance
The NIV uses the phrase
“ Abundance “
I believe that there is a misnomer
Among the body of Christ
That we believe that God will give us
Access to Him
But we can’t get
Excess from Him
I want to persuade you today
That it is God’s desire
For you to have a place
Of abundance
Two things you gotta see
1st A Biblical Precedent for us having an Abundance
Precedent — which means – God has already established in the Bible a Precedent of persons who have already enjoyed an abundance
And that’s significant
To look at this Precedent today
Because if God didn’t want us to enjoy an abundance
Nobody else in the Bible
Would’ve had an abundance
But because there’s a biblical Precedents
Of individuals in the Bible
That have possess an abundance
Because God is not a respective of person
What God has done for others
God can do for us
When you look at the Bible
You were discover in Genesis chapter 26
Genesis 26:12–13 (KJV 1900)
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.
13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
Job had an abundance
Job 1:2–3 (ESV)
2 There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
3 He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys, and very many servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.
It wasn’t just the brothers that had an abundance
But there were some sisters that had an abundance
10 And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.
1st There is A Biblical Precedent for us having an Abundance
2nd There is A Biblical Promise for us having an Abundance
Malachi 3:10 (ESV)
10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
Matthew 14:15-21– Jesus feeds the 5,000 with 2 fish & 5 loaves of bread
You have to believe
That God is true to his word
And that things are not going to always
Look like they are looking now
That there will be an abundance
But one of the things you can’t forget
Is that in order to get to that place
You got to first go through the process
I know we don’t like the word process
We would rather just
Name it and Claim it
Blab it and Grab it
Call it and Haul it
But the truth of the matter is
God has to allow us to go through the process
Example of Process
Exodus 13:17–18 (KJV 1900)
17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
God says I have to put process
In between where you’re going
And where you’re coming from
No man of God, or woman of God
That God is using mightily
Will walk straight into their abundance
There’s somebody here today
You are tired of taking laps
You are tired of going through the process
You’re tired of going through the pain
You’re tired of writing in the journal without no joy
But don’t get weary in well doing
You got to go through the process
And the process may not feel good to you
But process is good for you
The process will teach you how to be thankful
And the writer of Psalm 66 says
In order to get to this wealthy place
You have to go through a process
And there’s three things he says about the process
The Psalmist says in order to arrive to this Place :
1st We have to Endure being Proven
Psalm 66:10 (KJV 1900)
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: Thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
The Lord has to Prove us
As silver is tried
As the silversmith tried the silver
That’s how I have to try you
Now we have to understand how the silver is proven by the Silversmith
The silver have to prove itself three different ways to the Silversmith
In order for the silversmith, to stamp his silver of approval
Three things have to happen
1st The Silver has to Prove that it’s Capable of Remaining
In order for the silver, to be refined
The silver Smith has to put the silver
In a crucible
The Silversmith has to put the silver in something hot
Because fake silver will not endure
Pressure
In order to separate the real silver from the fake silver
The silversmith leaves the silver in the crucible
And it’s only the authentic silver
That can remain under the flames
At the bottom of the crucible
Under Pressure in the fire
This is what God is saying in the text
In order for me to see your FAITH is real – Genuine
I have to put you in some heat
And see if you will remain under pressure
You need to know
That if God put you there
He will sustain you there
Because He wants to see
That your faith ain’t FAKE
Can you remain under with tears falling down
Can you remain under when your heart is broken?
Can you remain under when you just don’t understand
Can you remain under when your child is strung out on drugs?
Can you remain under when your marriage is falling apart?
Can you remain under when the church ain’t churchy
Can you remain under when your money is funny
The real silver can sustain the test of time
Somebody ought to give God praise
Because the last year 1 ½ to 2 years
Some of you have really remained under the pressure
The last year 1 ½ to 2 years
Has proven
That things don’t have to be perfect
To give God a perfect praise
Your worship is for real
1st The Silver has to Prove that it’s Capable of Remaining
2nd The Silver has to Prove that it’s Corruption has been Removed
Silver has the propensity to have toxin
Silver has to propensity to have blemishes in it
And what the Silversmith has to do
The silversmith leaves the silver in the crucible
Until All of the blemishes of the silver has been burned off
Because somebody is asking God on today
When will I come out of the flame of adversity ????
And God is saying that He can’t take you out
Until all of the corruption is removed
God says I can’t bring you out
Because you still have some private propensities
You still have some habitual habits
You still have some secret sins
I can’t bring you out until I tame your nasty tongue
I can’t bring you out until I change your nasty attitude
I can’t bring you out until you learn how to forgive people
I can’t bring you out until you learn how to speak to everybody
I can’t bring you out until you learn how to humble yourself
I can’t bring you out until everything within you that’s not of me is burned out.
1st The Silver has to Prove that it’s Capable of Remaining
2nd The Silver has to Prove that it’s Corruption has been Removed
3rd The Silver has to Prove that it has the Capacity to Reflect
The Silversmith knows
That the silver has not been completely refined
Until he sees himself
In the reflection of the silver
The Silversmith knows
It is only when the silver can reflect
The image of the silversmith
That the silver is authentic
And that is what God is saying today
I can’t bring you out
Until you give off the reflection of me
I can’t bring you out until I see myself
in your walk
In your work
In your worship
I know you’re the usher, but can I see myself
I know you’re the mission, but can I see myself
I know you’re the pastor Support, but can I see myself
I know you’re the preacher, but can I see myself
I know you’re the Deacon, but I see myself
I know you can sing, but can I see myself
The Lord says I’m trying to get you to this wealthy place
But I can’t bring you out
Until you have been proven under Pressure
The Psalmist says in order to arrive to this Place :
1st We have to Endure being Proven
2nd We have to Encounter having Pressure
Psalm 66:11 (KJV 1900)
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
Affliction { In Hebrew means [ PRESSURE }
I’ve discovered that everybody can’t handle pressure
Some people falter under pressure
Some people knees buckle under pressure
Quote: That Pressure does not make you WHO you are PRESSURE REVEALS WHO you are ….
Pressure can do one out of the two things to a person
1st It will either Destroy you
2nd It Can Design you
Pressure can either defeat you or define you
Pressure can either Devour you are develop you
Pressure can Detain you or Determine you
Pressure can Defeat you or it can Delight you
You have to make up in your mind
How pressure is going to affect your life
And the reason why God allow pressure
In our lives
Is to get the better you
Out of you
Genesis 32:28 (NKJV)
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
In Lawrenceville, Georgia Angela Cavallo picks up 1964 Chevy Impala off her son Tony who is in Jr High school . She didn’t realize the strength that she had BUT IT WAS THE PRESSURE THAT GAVE HER THE STRENGTH
You need to thank God
For the strength that he is developing within you
Because of the pressure he has placed on you
And you don’t even realize now
That you have to lift some things
That was too heavy for you to lift, but thank God for the pressure
You have to lift the burden of burying a loved one
You have to lift the burden of failed marriage
You have to lift the burden of being a single parent
You had to lift the burden of catching hell all week long
The Psalmist says in order to arrive to this Place :
1st We have to Endure being Proven
2nd We have to Encounter having Pressure
3rd We have to Experience some Peril
Psalm 66:12 (KJV 1900)
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water: But thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
Peril is stuff that can kill you
Peril is stuff that has the Power to take you OUT
Peril is stuff that’s Dangerous
2 Corinthians 11:26 (NKJV)
26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
Psalm 66:12 – “ THROUGH”
Here’s the good news
You don’t look like what you’ve been through
You don’t look like you’ve been broke
You don’t look like you’ve been depressed
You don’t look like you’ve been through a divorce
You don’t look like you’ve been through cancer
